The blue flask caught my eye in Lot 618. See how the side is all mottled and irregular. Maybe being buried in the ground? changed the surface - or maybe it was made that way. What do you think? The next two lots also have blue glass. Auction ends March 7 at 6:30PM (Central time)

Braunschweiger Sample Salesman Bags Turn up in Idaho « American Bottle Auctions:

A pair of leather salesman sample bags with (100% :) proof that whomever was using it was selling spirits advertised by and for the Braunschweiger Company was found recently in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Whether Braunschweiger himself used one of the bags or his salesmen used them is still up in the air but direct ties to some of his most popular brands are unarguably Braunschweiger. Brands like Beargrass, Old Pioneer, Golden Anchor, Civilian White Rye, Golden Rule XXXX, California Club and other sample vials were found, labeled and ready to be tasted by potential customers were neatly fitted into these leather satchels.

" Large, round poison [bottle] with the original stopper. The stopper reads, “POISON,” on the top, with a picture of a skull and crossbones. It is also very sharp. Obviously this prevented anyone from misidentifying the bottle. A very rare bottle in this size, also un-dug and the first we’ve offered.

"You won't see people just sitting there behind a table," said Lou Hall, a retired home designer from Fresno and the president of the 1,500-member group, as he led visitors Saturday into the convention floor at the Doubletree airport hotel. "It's a buzz of conversation. It's stories told and retold. Where was that one found? Who did you buy this one from? Did you hear Fred died last fall? What happened to his collection?"

"The “toothpick people” as Bower calls his buddies, will have seminars, displays, an auction, and other events. The Kansas City host will even throw a barbecue for the out-of-town visitors the night before the convention begins.
Short of counting the names on the membership roster, Bower estimates there are perhaps a couple of hundred members around the country."

National Toothpick Holder Collectors’ Society ... 2011 convention ... will be at the Overland Park Convention Center July 7-9 (Kansas City). This year’s meeting will be in conjunction with a big glass collectors’ show, which will mean even more people. Makes sense, as a lot of 19th century toothpick holders were made of glass.

Coca-Cola memorabilia sale is the real thing - Travel - Destination Travel - US and Canada - msnbc.com:

Larry Schmidt looks over some of the dozens of vending machines in his Coca-Cola museum in Elizabethtown, Ky. The largest collection of Coke memorabilia, some 80,000 items, is set to be auctioned off beginning in September. The Schmidts plan to start a family foundation with the money they raise and will give to charities.

"The entire collection is valued in the millions and includes one-of-a-kind posters, rare serving trays, century-old lithograph calendars, unique bottles, colorful jewelry, lighted signs, vending machines and toys. There's even the side of a Kentucky barn that served as a giant Coke ad."
