Barcelona Grand Tour of modern architecture
We traveled to Barcelona in 2006 and created this map to plan our days to see many great buildings. A rental apartment that we found onthe internet was our home inthe center of the city one week, which is certainly a great way to enjoy living in a city while on vacation.

Take a tour of architecture new and old with photographs in the Catalonian city of Barcelona in the Kingdom of Spain.

Collecting habit connected to Creativity | Psychology Today

Mujer (Joan Miró, 1983)Image via Wikipedia
The Collection Connection to Creativity | Psychology Today:

... "collecting exercises a number of important mental tools necessary for creative thinking. The collector learns to observe acutely, to make fine distinctions and comparisons, to recognize patterns within her collection. These patterns include not only the elements that make up the collection, but the gaps in it as well."

It is a poorly recognized fact that many creative people are collectors. Scientist Charles Darwin became interested in studying nature when he became a collector of bugs. David M. Lee, a Nobel laureate in Physics not only collected bugs but also railway time tables and meteorological charts. Novelist Vladimir Nabokov was a passionate collector of butterflies. Nobel laureate (Literature) Giorgos Seferis collected sea shells. Artist Joan Miró collected siurells, clay whistles from Mallorca, Spain.

Agraffiti: Unusual collection of #Graffiti gets an unexpected home: HeraldTimesOnline.com

Agraffiti art promoter gives his unusual collection an unexpected home: HeraldTimesOnline.com:
"vintage spray-paint cans, some more than 50 years old, in a cabinet from Crate & Barrel. It’s a colorful installation of memorabilia — the graffiti fan’s version of collect-and-trade baseball cards — that Damien Hirst might envy.

The dining room sideboard may be an ornate antique bought from his mother, who runs estate sales in Bethesda, Md. But Gastman turned it into another stage for his passion, placing on top a hollow, see-through lamp base with nozzles from spray-paint cans.

“Who else would fill a big glass lamp with spray tips?” Neelon asked. “Roger has an impeccable eye for collecting and displaying art.”"

Collecting Information on Collectors (Via art market monitor)

Collecting Information on Collectors:
New York City
"“The history of collecting is so deliciously interdisciplinary,” says Inge Reist, who directs the fledgling Center for the History of Collecting in America at the Frick Collection in New York. “It opens so many doors.” The center was established in 2007, after years of planning, “to stimulate awareness and study of the formation of fine and decorative arts collections from colonial times to the present, while asserting the relevance of this subject to art and cultural history.”"

So far, the archives directory encompasses about 5,000 collections in 500 repositories documenting the lives and activities of 1,500 American collectors. Researchers who visithttp://research.frick.org/directoryweb/home.php find, for example, that information about New York taxi tycoon Robert C. Scull and his wife, Ethel (known as “Spike”) — who collected contemporary art voraciously in the 1960s and scandalized the art world when they cashed in at auction in 1973 — is available in interviews, papers and record books at the Archives of American Art in Washington and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Birth of tattooing in Denmark | From sailors to kings #Tattoo

From sailors to kings: the birth of tattooing in Denmark:

"To descend those steps is to visit the birthplace of tattooing in Denmark.

“This is where it all started,” said photographer and author Jon Nordstrøm when The Copenhagen Post met him outside of Nyhavn 17, home to Tattoo-Ole, the oldest functioning tattoo shop in the world.

Photographer Jon Nordstrøm covers over 100 years of history in his photo book ‘Danish Tattooing’

Nordstrøm began researching the history of tattooing in Copenhagen a few years ago, collecting enough photographs, anecdotes and historical artefacts to put together the 300-page photo book ‘Dansk Tatovering/Danish Tattooing’, which he released in 2009."
