LaQ - Snap-together construction toy kits

Very cool modular block construction toys from LaQ with sets for girls and boys. Unique square and triangular puzzle pieces snap together easily and the instructions are easy to follow with exploded-view diagrams. The Q is for "kyuu" which means sphere in Japanese because these pieces can make all the platonic solids and more, even the dodecahedron. The freeform kits are my favorite.

Piperoids unique paper craft robot toys - Original paper toy kits for the office

PIPEROID paper craft robots

The whole lineup of recently released Piperoid robot toys from magnote.com

First time I've seen these toys and I can't think of anything cooler to give my niece and nephew the next time they need something to do for an hour when they come to visit (their Dad needs some down-time while the kids play games) Octo (mischievous octopus) and Deca (mischievous  crab) (not pictured) were released in time for Toy Fair. The rival chefs Salt & Pepper are great for any would-be connoisseur. "All you need is a pair of sissors." Check Magnote on facebook.

The webpage has full support for end-users with Instructions, Assembly Tips and an FAQ. In this case FAQ stands for Freekin' Awesome Quality toys - see the videos. All you get is several tubes of paper and pictographic instructions without many words. Yet, all these complicated toys with movable limbs and multi-points of articulation. These are so simple and cool as to be elegant.

Treasures from Comic Con 2012 - Show Exclusives and Felix the Cat #Collecting #NYCC #Toys

Felix the Cat signed sketch by Don Oriolo and NYCC t-shirt

Felix the Cat was created as a cartoon character in the early 1920s by Otto Messmer. The comic strip was syndicated by King Features in 250 newspapers around the world. Felix is credited as the first animated television star when Messmer sold a paper mache doll to sit on camera for RCA's first experimental television transmissions in 1928.

In the 1950s, Joe Oriolo created the "talking" Felix animated cartoon series (and the character Casper the Friendly Ghost) with a new "long-legged" version of Felix that was approved by Messmer. Now, Joe's son, Don Oriolo is carrying on the work of his father. At the NYCC this year, Don was drawings sketches of Felix for the fans, and I picked up the very orange T-shirt. Felix the Cat Store sells action figures, and tons of other toys and games.

Women lobby for Bald Barbie for girls with cancer | MNN - Mother Nature Network

Bald Barbie Doll and True Hope Bratz 'n Moxie Dolls

A group formed on facebook to petition Mattel to create this new Barbie for girls suffering hair loss from cancer treatments. There's some controversy about Mattel's offer to donate 10,000 dolls to hospitals in the US and Canada. The Mattel spokesman answered my email, and you can see the official Mattel statement about Barbie's bald friend.

Toy maker MGA Entertainment also responded to the campaign by creating three new Bratz and 3 Moxie dolls. The idea of these dolls I find particularly moving and just super cool.
