COMIC-CON EPISODE IV: A FAN’S HOPE- a film by Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me) explores this amazing cultural phenomenon by following the lives of five attendees as they descend upon the ultimate geek mecca at San Diego Comic-Con 2010:


Meet the Subjects:
Eric, an aspiring illustrator, is hoping to impress publishers and land a job;
Holly, costume and creature designer, hopes her creations will win the big prize;
Chuck, a long-time comic book dealer, is looking for a big sale to pay off his debts;
Skip, longtime amateur illustrator wants to be discovered at this year’s event;
James, a young fan, hopes his girlfriend will accept a dramatic proposal.❞

'Priceless' Hitchcock movie unearthed in NZ - National - NZ Herald News:

"The White Shadow is a "wild, atmospheric melodrama" starring Betty Compson in dual roles as twin sisters, one angelic and the other "without a soul". The film was made when Hitchcock was just 24 years old. He died in 1980, aged 80, after more than five decades of film-making.

The White Shadow was among the many silent-era movies salvaged by Hastings projectionist and collector Jack Murtagh. After his death in 1989, the highly flammable nitrate prints were sent to the Film Archive for safekeeping by his grandson Tony Osborne."

Puppeteers, CG meet to create 'Real Steel' robots | Crave - CNET:


"... director Shawn Levy decided to build huge, gadget-rich "puppet" versions of the boxing robots from the new Hugh Jackman action movie "Real Steel." ... working "real life" versions of the creatures via animatronics to interact with Jackson and the other actors on-set.

Legacy Effects built 24 robot puppets in total, including versions of the main "stars" Atom, Noisy Boy, and Ambush. According to Legacy's statistics, each puppet contained more than 350 individual machine parts, making for a final creation that weighed more than 250 pounds. Each limb joint could be adjusted to let operators take control of the bots with puppet articulation rods.

Hugh Jackman's "Real Steel" movie, set in a near-future when robot fighters have replaced humans in the ring, debuted at No. 1 with $27.3 million, according to studio estimates Sunday.

A DreamWorks release distributed by Disney, "Real Steel" added $22.1 million in 19 overseas markets for a worldwide total of $49.4 million. The movie casts Jackman as a former boxer reluctantly thrown together with his young son as they turn a junkyard robot into a world-class contender.

The world's largest collection of movie costumes, props and other Hollywood memorabilia is being auctioned off in a series of sales beginning June 18, according to the dealer Profiles in History. The first previews occur this weekend at the Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills.

Part two of the Hollywood memorabilia auction series will take place in December. If you enjoy classic films, I highly recommend that you download the free auction catalog PDF file at this page. It's a veritable treasure trove of memorable costumes and moments from film history and the catalog reads like a book.

"The massive 'Debbie Reynolds Collection' will be auctioned off in two separate series. The entire collection contains over 3,500 costumes, 20,000 original photographs, several thousand original movie posters, original costume sketches and hundreds of key props from film history."
