The Candy Wrapper Museum:

Somehow, the generic graphics on pizza boxes, pickle bags and matchbook covers are often overlooked gems that are such great examples of graphic styles and period advertising.

Woman revels in 'unique' gum collection | Offbeat | Eugene News, Weather, Sports, Breaking News | KVAL CBS 13
| obvious winner of the dotpattern award |
"When the 77-year-old Idaho Falls woman spread her treasured collection across her coffee table and living room floor, her face lit up and she spoke with youthful giddiness. Maughan looked like a child unleashed in a candy store — and that's no exaggeration.
Mounds of brightly-colored, creatively packaged gum surrounded her.
"It just intrigues me," Maughan said. "When I see a new flavor; oh dear, I'm not obsessed, but it almost seems like it."
Maughan started collecting gum in 1948. While her peers found fascination in matchbooks, stamps and bottle caps, she wanted something different.
As a 15-year-old, Maughan watched the Freedom Train pass through Pocatello with her schoolmates. While there, she bought her collection's first piece — Popeye bubble gum, inspired by the cartoon "Sailor Man" and his gal, Olive Oyl.

After that, she was hooked.
For the next 63 years, Maughan kept an eye out for new packages and flavors of chewing gum wherever she went."

How to start backyard beekeeping - Houston Chronicle
Backyard beekeeping is easy - Houston Chronicle:

Backyard beekeeping is fun and not difficult, but planning is important. It takes about four weeks to get a hive up and running, Burger says.
Order the queen and workers in fall for delivery in spring, the beginning of the bee season. "You want gentle bees," he says. He recommends buckfast, a race developed in England. "I have lots of garden tours, and I've yet to have anyone stung," he says. "It's a one-shot deal. Since bees die after stinging, they don't want to sting. I let bees walk on my finger."
Order beekeeping equipment. You'll need a box or hive plus a veiled hat and gloves. Burger also recommends a smoker, a stainless steel device that emits smoke to calm bees.
He estimates startup costs at $250-$300, plus $80-$120 for the bees, depending on the time of year ordered.

Chinese Man Builds 600,000-Cigarette-Pack Fort
Chinese Man Builds 600,000-Cigarette-Pack Fort:

Wang Guanyi, a 46-year-old cigarette pack collector from Longnan, China, has recently built a 30-foot fort-like building made with 600,000 colorful cigarette packs.
Wang is a famous person in his home city because he usually greets everyone with “hello, do you smoke? do you have cigarette packs?” He says he has been fascinated with cigarette packs ever since he was a little boy, and collected his first one off the street, when he was just seven years old. He was first attracted by the bright colors and nice images on the packs, and kept collecting them until he reached an impressive 600,000. As you can imagine, every corner of his house was filled with them, but just when he was running out of space, he saw a TV show about a man who had built a house out of wine bottles, and was inspired to do the same thing with his cigarette pack collection.

Marilyn Monroe product deal flirts with $50 million figure - NYPOST.com
Marilyn Monroe product deal flirts with $50 million figure - NYPOST.com:
| Jamie Salter, who already owns the rights to reggae legend Bob Marley, bought the rights to Marilyn Monroe. He’s planning to develop products inspired by her likeness. |
"Jamie Salter of Authentic Brands Group, which partnered with media company NECA to acquire the Marilyn Monroe estate. 'We're not really interested in the trinkets and trash,' Salter told The Post. 'Don't get me wrong, it's a good business -- calendars, posters and shot glasses -- but that's not what we want to do with Marilyn Monroe.'"
It's too early to say what Marilyn-branded clothing will look like, except that it will be "elegant, elegant, elegant -- and size doesn't matter," Salter said.
