A Forgotten Collector of Early Italian Art: Horatio Walpole, Third Earl of Orford.
The long-established fame of Sir Robert Walpole (1676-1745) and his youngest son Horace (1717-1797) as the pre-eminent patrons and collectors of the Georgian art world has entirely overshadowed the efforts of their descendants in the same field, and none more so than the almost entirely unheard of Horatio Walpole, Third Earl of Orford (1783-1858), who formed a significant collection of art at his family seat of Wolterton Hall in Norfolk during the first half of the nineteenth-century."
