Palace collection connects people to the past:
new-north-grace-curator
A scrapbook collected by Tryon Palace's first curator,
Gregor Norman-Wilcox and his wife, Grace
"The exhibit includes objects large and small, elegant and average that give view to some aspect of the past – some exploit, character or story.

“Our theme is the why, what and how of why we collect,” Packer said. “People make connections to the past through objects. We’re trying to tell interesting stories through the objects, which is why we have everything from a boat to furniture to architecture to silver.”"

The Stopper Stairway

Being a wine lover inspires all sorts of displays and collections. I've ended up with a few openers, wine charms, and aerators. But between gifts and souvenirs, what I have most of is bottle stoppers.

Very rare "verbal" fortune-teller machin | Memories of the Old West that collectors want to own - World - NZ Herald News

rMemories of the Old West that collectors want to own - World - NZ Herald News:
"Truth was, until a few years ago, nobody, not even her owner, knew the non-functioning machine gathering dust in Bob's Place was an undiscovered treasure sitting in plain sight in this ghost town-turned-themed tourist attraction.

The 100-year-old fortune teller was an extremely rare find. Instead of dispensing a card like Zoltar, the Gypsy would actually speak your fortune from a hidden record player. When you dropped a nickel in the slot, her eyes would flash, her teeth would chatter and her voice would come floating from a tube extending out of the 2.5m-tall box."

earliest surviving Hitchcock movie unearthed in NZ - NZ Herald News

'Priceless' Hitchcock movie unearthed in NZ - National - NZ Herald News:
"The White Shadow is a "wild, atmospheric melodrama" starring Betty Compson in dual roles as twin sisters, one angelic and the other "without a soul". The film was made when Hitchcock was just 24 years old. He died in 1980, aged 80, after more than five decades of film-making.

The White Shadow was among the many silent-era movies salvaged by Hastings projectionist and collector Jack Murtagh. After his death in 1989, the highly flammable nitrate prints were sent to the Film Archive for safekeeping by his grandson Tony Osborne."

'A Collection a Day': Lisa Congdon's Obsessive and Unusual Art Project - Maria Popova - Life - The Atlantic:

"A Collection a Day catalogs all 365 of Congdon's quirky, obsessive, endlessly curious collections of tchotchkes -- erasers, pencils, vintage stamps, mushrooms, receipts, medals, maps, sea urchins, and just about everything in between -- in a beautiful volume that's somehow calming and centering in its neatness, a rare oasis of order amidst the chaos of the everyday stuff that surrounds us."
